Unknowing Poverty: Ananya Roy at TEDxBerkeley Ananya Roy \u2013 Professor of City and Regional Planning and Distinguished Chair in Global Poverty and Practice at the University of California, Berkeley \u2014 in a talk given at TEDxBerkely discusses \u201cthe ways that poverty is seen and understood in American society and around the world. LINK TO VIDEOS<\/a><\/p>\r\n Student Devised Theatre Projects \u2013 Performance Ethnography<\/strong><\/p>\r\n Over the 2014 Winter term, students in Dr. Magdalena Kazubowski-Houston\u2019s 2nd year Devised Theatre class participated in an introduction to the devising of original theatre in a collaborative setting. Through classroom exercises and the creation, rehearsal, and presentation of devised and interpreted performance projects, the participants explored the essential questions and investigative tools of the theatre practitioner. I teach a second year course introducing students to sensory ethnography.<\/strong> A few weeks ago, students read Rosenblum\u2019s statement and we listened to \u201cIf One Night\u2026\u201d in class.<\/strong> Then, each student wrote a 150-word blog post about visual images and emplaced memories listening to this soundscape evoked<\/strong> for them. These included: Vancouver, Hong Kong, Africa, San Francisco, South Asia, East Asia, UK, rural farmers\u2019 markets, family dinners in a buffet restaurant, clip clop of Clydesdale horses, serene landscapes, flamenco dancing, motor boats, chain saws, lawnmowers, pet stores, wharfs, men walking in heavy boots in the rain, rich and wet textures, sea planes landing in an airport, and being lost in a forest.
